Cliveden Reach

Cliveden. Now a luxury hotel, this grand stately home is set in the heart of the Berkshire countryside, surrounded by 376 acres of magnificent formal gardens and parkland managed by the National Trust. Jerome K. Jerome describes Clivden Reach as 'unbroken loveliness this is, perhaps the sweetest stretch of all the Thames' in Three Men in a Boat (1889).

A beautiful spot! Wonder what it costs per night?
John Prior: Prices very from around £200.00 to £600.00 per night. Nancy Astor was born 1879 in Virginia. Her father was a Confederate officer, who later became a successful tobacco auctioneer. He refused to let her go to college, a fact she always resented. Nancy Astor decided to run for the seat that Waldorf vacated when he was made a Lord. Her campaign slogan: 'Vote for Lady Astor and your children will weigh more.' She worked for temperance, women's rights, and children's rights. Some memorable quotations: 'I married beneath me - all women do'. 'One reason I don't drink is that I want to know when I am having a good time'. 'The only thing I like about rich people is their money'. She died in 1964

A super place John: I can just see Christine undressed in the pool when I close my eyes...
John Prior: Yes indeed, Lady Astor, southern belle and one of the first women to be an MP was still entertaining at Cliveden at the time of the Profumo affair, she died in 1964.
Love to stay the night there, romantic I think
John Prior: Yes a a very romantic place with an interesting history.

I can see you would need a fat wallet to stay here! but it is a fabulous house and sat on the Thames! smile
John Prior: Special offers around £200.00 per night, I see they even offer a Profumo themed event, the mind boggles smile
I think the National trust does still do tours of parts of the house on certain days.
John Prior: They own the house, most of it is in use as a hotel, £200.00 - £600.00 per night, I see they even offer a Profumo themed event, the mind boggles smile
It seems you've set Chris all aglow with this picture John. This lovely place does have a reputation of course.
John Prior: Yes indeed, I see the hotel offer a Profumo themed event, perhaps I should tell him.
