About to land

Landing at the Marco Polo airport. Venice showing connecting road and rail bridge, and note the large cruise ship on the right. I'll post a few shots of the lagoon, they are fascinating, if you'll forgive the noise and poor technical quality through the aircrafts window, it was also raining which has further reduced clarity.

What a sight! Bet you couldn't wait to land. Ours was a Ryanair special landing at Treviso, which is nearer Vienna than Venice! The approach by airport bus isn't quite as spectacular.
John Prior: It was exciting despite the rain, cheers Graeme.

A nice view of the city...
I always traveled by train, so I missed that.
John Prior: Thanks Sidney, next time I visit I might stay in Padua, quick access to Venice by train, but a lot less expensive.

Hi John....i shot the same picture when i was leaving Venice in 2006...but it was not half as good as this one....i am just arriving there in today's post by ship....but that was also back in 2006.
Cheers Mate
John Prior: It looks like a great way to arrive, I never realised how great the view would be from a cruise ship, cheers Peter.
Looks like a very old analogue photo like this John, I like it!! Brilliant view.
John Prior: Thank you Marion, was rather disappointed by the performance of the Lumix LX3, seemed to produced a lot of noise even at low ISO's, sold it soon after, much preferred the LX1 which had a more versatile lens range and fixed 16:9 ratio.

I'm not sure I've ever seen an aerial view of Venice, John, so this is most educational. i love it.
John Prior: It would be great to shoot from a helicopter, cheers Ginnie

Very interesting John. I've seen many pictures of Venice in my life but never this fascinating overview before
John Prior: Thanks Chris, I don't remember seeing any aerial photography either.
I love these bird's-eye view shots, really gives a sense of where everything belongs.
John Prior: Thanks Sheila, yes seems to give a better sense of place than a map.
A workman always blames his tools. ;-)

I just love arial views
John Prior: Thanks Richard, yes indeed, I once did a shoot with aerial photographer Jason Hawkes.

Happy landing!
Catch you here around later! smile
John Prior: Cheers Pekka
A beautiful aerial view of Venice.
John Prior: Thank you Laurette
Nice to see how it is laid put. Is that the Grand Canal just above the centre of the picture John?
John Prior: The start of the Grand Canal is just right of the train station, most of it is hidden by the buildings.

Impeccable timing, John. Not only did you get the road, but the boat going parallel and that small island without the wing obstructing the perfect circle. I like the grain and the multiple colors in the water.
John Prior: Thanks Sherri, more by luck than judgement smile
Very good aerial view even with the grain, it must have been great to see it like this smile
John Prior: Thanks Linda, it was great, even better further away from the planes wing smile
A great view John. Not always easy when flying
John Prior: Thanks Janet, just down to luck smile
You couldn't view it better John..Nice one.
John Prior: Yes a great view from the air, cheers Ron
I actually like the noise, it adds to the atmosphere. Neat to see Venice from above too. That had to have been exciting!
John Prior: Thanks T, yes it was, it sort of set up the visit.
This is a splendid sight
John Prior: Cheers Bill, it was rather a bonnus.

I like the grain in this. lovely view.
John Prior: Cheers Otto smile
Nice idea and great result: it's a excellent view over Venice! All is there: the bridge to Mestre, the Lido, the islands, San Marco... Great!!!
Have a nice day.
John Prior: Thanks Dom, I was pleased to get the chance smile
