photoblog image Ant

I could not resist posting this, spotted over the hedge at 'The Gardens of the Rose' St Albans yesterday, located in 'Butterfly World' Shot with a Sony a5000, bought for its wi-fi capability so I can use it on the end of an extending pole (painters poles are good for up to 5m) using my iPhone as viewfinder and controler, attached with a holder designed for bike handlebars. Really don't have to go that high to get unusual viewpoints, just have to pluck up the nerve to use it.

I declare, John. You've gone hi-tech on us! Now I'm wondering what the scale is of this humongous ant?
John Prior: I could not get that close, but it was huge.

I'd like to see a picture of you using all that ingenious stuff John. The ant is amazing!
John Prior: The ant looks pretty realistic, imagine bumping into a real one that size.
I am trying to picture you with a camera on the end of a pole, an iphone in your hand taking pictures. Still if this is the result then it can't be bad!
John Prior: The iPhone is attached to the pole at head height using a phone holder designed for bike use, until extended it looks like a monopod. I looked at drones, but the outlay and potential for an accident seemed to large, found a lot on the web about mast photography and took a DIY route. One can achieve a good aerial look with a wide angle lens.
Gigantic, a kaiju.
John Prior: One of Godzilla's mates
I believe ants are going to take over the world and you've presented the first sculpture of the captain of the invasion.

Great that you achieved a set up for your aerials.
John Prior: They think they have smile
I saw a photographer using a pole at a snowboard event in Flagstaff, it was intriguing,it could open up a whole new world in inaccessible places, John. The Ant is scary...
John Prior: Yes a lot of this has developed from people using GoPro Hero for action video in difficult places.
A very good picture John but it's all getting far too technical for me these days.
John Prior: Nice to be able to get new viewpoints Brian
wow John...How big is this ant! Fantastic John! Thanks for finally posting this!
John Prior: Pretty big, I would not want to meet it walking down the streetsmile
Thank God they're not really this big. What a capture.
