Gordale Scar

Malham, Yorkshire. "This is a place so frighteningly inspirational that that poet Thomas Grey 'shuddered with awe' at the imposing cliffs sparsely populated by gravity defying yew trees. It has also inspired Wordsworth and the artist James Ward who painted it (1811-13, Tate Gallery, London) with awesome respect on a 14 foot canvas. Indeed if nearby 'Janet's Foss' (picture to come) is fairies then Gordale Scar is goblins"

Goodness it does look inspirational! I'd love to scramble around on those rocks and explore the canyon!
John Prior: We just missed a couple of parties of school children, on field trips, I would imagine a lot of scrambling then smile

I can see why one might shudder with awe at the place John
John Prior: It was thought fearsome by Victorians. A fine day when we were there, but you can just imagine it's character in more gloomy weather
Definitely a spot for a good movie scene, like from LOTR, John!
John Prior: Yes indeed, a fine day when we were there, but you can just imagine it's character in dramatic weather

Amazing rock faces and no doubt, in mid-winter, that small stream is really strong.
John Prior: I'm sure this place could be really wild in the right conditions
John Prior: Thank you Larry
Nice shot of a great place, John, it's a good scramble up there, then walk around to the cove.
John Prior: Did not get to see the Cove just the Tarn smile
