The Codrington Library

All Souls College, Oxford. Henry Chichele, Archbishop of Canterbury, co-founder with Henry VI in 1438 decided that the college should have a library from the outset. As well as books the library is guardian to a number of other objects, including a death mask of Christopher Wren and memorabilia of T.E. Lawrence. The library is open to recommended graduates and undergraduates of the University, and to bona fide scholars.

Stunning shot! I feel privileged to be viewing the inside of the Oxford Library such a wonderful place. I would like to know what the older looking books are about on the second level. smile
John Prior: I'm not bona fide enough to answer that smile
Fascinating place. Everything in perfect balance.
John Prior: Yes no fear of symmetry here smile

This is one fine looking place John: you are privileged indeed to look upon this great man
John Prior: Not quite sure who he is meant to be, but we were both impressed.

I loved that film, Lawrence of Arabia, John. One of the greats. Unusual to see sculpture like this indoors.
John Prior: Yes a classic film, remember the class being taken to see it in London

I have a friend who would give his leg to visit here. He is already missing some toes so he would learn to live without a leg.
John Prior: I like old bookshops, but not much chance being allowed to browse here smile
Very fine corner of the library, and all so neat and tidy.
John Prior: In fact the centre section of a long room, very impressive.
Wow... enough books to last a lifetime...
John Prior: Is there a saying about being more afraid of the man who has read one book and read it well?
this is a well composed shot. your text made me look up what a death mask is and that was something new i learned today.
