Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in Europe - home to the Duke of Northumberland's family, the Percys, for over 700 years. In a rather pretty mode with the daffodils out, but it saves buying the postcard. The castle was used as a film set for the exterior and interior of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. We visited the gardens and the castle, rather expensive and the gardens are too new for my taste, but the state rooms of the castle really do make you feel you are visiting a living family property unlike so many National Trust properties with bits set aside and roped off for visitors. No sparing of the fine carpets here.

A great photograph John what with all those flowers growing in the field. A very impressive castle that I only saw in passing, although we stopped for a night in Alnwick.
John Prior: A nice town also Chad.

What a gorgeous shot John. The sky, castle & thousands of daffodils make for a very fine image
John Prior: A bit pretty as a picture perhaps, but was very nice to see.
We went there years ago with the kids. It is every bit as impressive as it looks here John
John Prior: Yes I thought the castle and contents impressive, less so the new garden with elaborate water features thats needs more time to bed in, but to be fair perhaps it looks better when more is in bloom.
A great shot..

Not just the magnificent British History which the Castle depicts, but also the bright yellow daffodils gives the picture taste.

John Prior: Thanks for comment and visit
I would imagine the high cost of visiting would be necessary just to heat a building like this in winter. Amazing that someone actually lives here. Very nice shot taken at probably the best time of year for the effect of the daffodils.
John Prior: Yes high cost's and it's been made into a successful business which is good. The Garden is also run as a charitable trust that trains young unemployed people. You pay for both venues or can just choose one of them
It looks good from this angle John, that carpet of daffodils gives a great foreground.
John Prior: Yes a large area of them and good views from the high bank.

Beautiful spring shot!
A perfect shot with the flowers there... and great info too about the Harry Potter films. I'd love to visit there.
