Bamburgh Castle

The Normans built a new castle on the site, which forms the core of the present one. William II unsuccessfully besieged it in 1095 during a revolt supported by its owner, Robert de Mowbray, Earl of Northumbria. After Robert was captured, his wife continued the defence until coerced to surrender by the king's threat to blind her husband. A close point to the Farne islands, Grace Darling is burried at the church in the village.

Northumberland was a very fortified place John and clearly needed to be. Imagine how impressive these places were in those times.
John Prior: Yes indeed intact castles and plenty of ruins, I liked it there, thanks Chad

One of the most photographed places in the UK John, and quite rightly so
John Prior: Yes, nice to get the sea in the shots but time and tide did not wait.
A classic shot of this wonderful building John
John Prior: Thanks Bill, built on a solid rock among sand dunes, but gives the impression of being built on sand. Reminds me of Jimi Hendrix 'Castles made of sand'
I have seen shots of this before. I like that you have included a slice of beach.
John Prior: Thanks Mary, would have liked to get the sea, but time and tide were against me, but they are magnificent sandy beaches.
Good to see you've chosen a different angle than the ones usually seen John. I hope you went in the church there, it is quite photogenic.
John Prior: Did have a look around but did not make it to the church, the coast is quite magnificent though
