Towards Babel.

The Shard, is a skyscraper under construction in Southwark, London. When completed in 2012, it will be the tallest building in the European Union and the 45th tallest building in the world. At 1,017 ft (310 m) tall, it will be the second tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom after the 1,084 ft (330.4m) Emley Moor transmitting station.

The Shard was designed in 2000 by Renzo Piano, the Italian architect best known for creating Paris’s Pompidou Centre of modern art with Britain’s Richard Rogers. This view shot from the river boat.

This is a fantastic composition John.... i love the sky around the building and the crane on top....it is as though there is no limit as to how high that they can build it..... but it took me some time to figure out why you chose this title....and i am not going to share it eithergrin....petersmile

Another icon in the making John: but I just love your description
John Prior: Thanks Chris, from the profile it looks quite a slender building, but I'm sure that is not the case.

gorgeous capture!
John Prior: Thank you Jani for visit and comment
I always admire crane drivers who work in places like this.
John Prior: A great view on a clear day, I wonder if any shots have been taken by the driver?
It is looking good against that sky John. Nice shot
John Prior: Thanks a lot Janet
A super photograph John. Great composition with wonderful color.
John Prior: Thanks Frances
I will wait until this is finished to decide if i like it, but I have a feeling it is not going to be in the same class as the Gherkin
John Prior: Thanks Bill, I'm not sure either, but if it did reflect sunlight really well it could look great.
Wonderful composition, head in the sky! Nicely done!
Have a nice day.
