Trullo house

Firstly I would like to thank all those who visited while I was away in Southern Italy and Sicily, I will try to catch up. Trulli houses are traditional Apulian limestone dwellings with conical roofs. Originally built without cement or mortar using dry wall methods, thus avoiding taxation as permanent dwellings. This example was in the grounds of the hotel we stayed at, I liked the wild flowers and Judas tree in the background.

Absolutely fascinating John: never seen anything like it before
John Prior: The main place, where a lot of the old town houses are like this is in nearby Alberobello. Shots from there later.
odd type of house, never seen it before, like a fairytale
John Prior: Thanks Chantal, very common in this part of Italy, they do indeed have a very folk feel.
I would be nervous to be in a building built dry-stone. Beautiful shot with those blasts of colour.
John Prior: Thanks Mary, they seem to have stood the test of time, the walls are very thick, cool in summer. The living space is small.
What a delightful little house.
John Prior: Thanks Brian, The main place, where a lot of the old town houses are like this is in nearby Alberobello. Shots from there later.
