Coombe Hill Monument

Undergoing restoration including a replacement bronze plaque - to replace the badly worn stone one that was installed in the !970's, a replacement of the original bronze one that was stolen. This imposing monument stands high on Coombe hill overlooking the vale of Aylesbury and Chequers, it can be seen for miles around. In memory of the 148 men of Buckinghamshire who gave their lives in the South Africa War (Boer War) 1899-1902.

nice details, rather them than me climbing up there, heights and I don't mix well at all.
John Prior: Thanks Leanne, It looks safe, scaffolding seems to be quite an art in its own right.

I've seen this in the distance & never known its purpose John. Nice to see it's being looked after
John Prior: Thanks Chris, yes quite an unusual memorial in prominence and place, perhaps being close to Chequers has something to do with this also.
very impressive vertical depth, awesome presentation
John Prior: Very kind Fabrizio.
It beggars belief that people would steal a bronze memorial plaque but, sadly, it isn't really a surprise
John Prior: Thanks Bill, yes I agree.
I like it with the scaffolding. It could be a monument to scaffolding.
John Prior: Thanks Chad, yes quite an art form in its own right.
Restoration is an art! Fine capture of it.
Lots of lovely angles and shapes in that scaffolding John.
