Coracle racing

It was a wet Saturday when we went to Cilgerran. The annual races were taking place on the River Teifi opposite the Coracle Centre, so we watched this in the rain instead of visiting the castle.

It looks totally bonkers!
John Prior: Thanks Ellie, not the most stable of craft, but very light to carry, ideal for salmon fishing.

Oh, silly me. I sat here studying this, thinking they were a team and keeping a formation and how difficult that would be. Then it dawned on me they were racing one another...lol. Neat scene you captured. They all have they're oars in the water....that's why I thought they were a team.
John Prior: Thanks Sherri, I liked the formation with B3 trying to catch up.

I didn't know these things were still made - let alone raced John!
John Prior: Thanks Chris. What would the world be like without enthusiasts? A local tradition and still used for salmon fishing on the Teifi.
Looks like a fun display, and it must have been fun to watch the race. Why want to know why there are so many B2 boats, and some boats with no number. Surely not the model numbers?
John Prior: Thanks Shelia and I wish I knew the answer, perhaps the year of registration smile
What a wonderful 'sport'.
John Prior: Thanks Chad, yes very quirky and haphazard.
So funny shot! B3 won't be the first at the end! Excellent!
Have a nice day.
John Prior: Thanks Dom, yes a bit of an outsider, but these are easy to capsize, so you never know.
Crikey, I bet there is some skill involved in keeping those going in the right direction. (:o)
John Prior: Thanks Rosalyn, yes indeed.
Looks like brilliant fun.

what a funny race is this?
Or is it a formation dance?
