Old fishing boat

Hastings last weekend. An unused boat sits high and dry.

What a grand looking old boat John, one of my favourite subjects.
John Prior: Thanks Les
What a nice find! That peeling blue paint on the boat draws the viewer in. And the sky and clouds are great, providing a melancholy mood. Good work.
John Prior: Thank you TH

What a sad sight. Makes a great image, but sad to see it old.
John Prior: Thanks Sherri, I love finding this sort of thing, always so photogenic.

Poor old thing - nicely taken John!
John Prior: Thanks Chris, always great subjects.
terrific capture! love the colors
John Prior: Thanks Charles
Great tonemapping! Lovely subtle details.
John Prior: Thank you Marion. Well spotted, yes a combination of tonemapping and the original image combined with a layer mask to get rid of some solarisation in the sky of the tonemapped version and reduce brightness of the grass and pebbles.
Your processing method to Marion lost me a bit John but it has worked out to be a very fine image.
John Prior: Thank you Brian. Very simple really, two layers in photoshop, layer mask on top image and soft brush painting 10% of black on layer mask to gradually reveal the layer below where adjustment needed.
The processing has worked a treat, great subject which needs some tlc smile
John Prior: Thank you Linda

Reminds me of a Youth Novel I once read; it is called Tambari and was written by Benno Pludra. A bunch of kids find an old cutter boat, fix it and sneak away with it...

And THIS *points* above* looks just like I had envisioned it. Great shot, nice camera point and - as usual - very nice hues and contrast!
John Prior: Thanks BK, its great when images rekindle memories.

A fine, highly detailed look at the type of construction that went into creating this boat.
I like the color and low viewpoint that places the boat largely against the sky. I can't help but wonder how many years it served before being parked here.
John Prior: Yes I wonder, plenty of this style still being used, but no doubt all are very old now. The metal ones have a completely different style and character. Thanks Don.
A great subject John..The processing looks good too.
Very nicely captured John

This makes it all the more reason to get to Hastings. A closer Dungeness (almost).
