Halifax Borough Market

The clock under the octagonal lantern. Anyone who's watched the recently screened BBC drama 'Happy Valley' shot on location around the Calder Valley would probably think it was the last place they would want to live. Conversley 'The Times' rated Hebden Bridge the number one coolest place to live in 2013. Still I suppose police drama 'Hinterland' on BBC4 is hardly doing much for Aberystwyth's image either. Locations and filming aside, the main crime with most British TV productions is the dull scripting and plots.

Enchantingly beautiful in b&w...
Wonderful architecture! I love all the detail on, and surrounding the clock!
Then you come along with something like "Downton Abbey," John, and you've made up for everything. smile Maggie Smith is worth the entire show! In the meantime, I love the geometry of this scene before us.
John Prior: Maggie Smith is a fine actress. The 'Sopranos' would be a better example of well drawn characters.

I echo your words regarding location-based dramas John, however this little piece of municipal Victoriana is a joy
Victorian splendour! I find most stuff on TV pretty dreary. I enjoyed Shetland although it didn't do much to enhance its' appeal as a holiday venue grin

Ange watched Happy Valley and thought it was good
John Prior: Happy Valley was quite good, Hinterland less so, trying for Scandinavian bleakness. The use of dual language was interesting also, but it might have worked better in Welsh with English subtitles. I just wonder why we can't do this sort of thing as well as others, somehow the characters that inhabit our dramas are just one dimensional.

What a find Martin, a great surviving glass roof.
John Prior: I found it without help Chad smile
wow, what a beautiful roof
This si a fine shot John, lovely old clock at the bottom. We watched Happy Valley and really enjoyed it, and a few years ago spent some time in Hebden Bridge which we found to be a very pleasant stopping off point.
Fantastic John! love it!
