I'd better run down to the shops & buy some more superlatives for this glorious image John!
John Prior: I wasn't sure what I would find, but the trees seem to have given up waiting for a frost.

What fabulous old beech trees. Beech leaves in their golds and rusty browns are among my favorite fall leaves.
John Prior: Yes there is something very evocative about old trees. Thanks Mary

Beautiful photograph. I love the colours. Looks like a pollarded tree. There are lots of these in Epping Forest in Essex. I love their character and all of the human history connected with these trees.
John Prior: Yes the old pollarded trees have great and very different characters, true time lords.
I've never been to this place but had heard how it is good for autumn colours.
John Prior: Is a delight in spring and autumn and well managed with some ancient sites. The City of London Corporation purchased it in 1880 to prevent development.
Thought this must be Burnham beeches John. Beautiful picture
John Prior: Well worth a visit in early spring and autumn, thanks Bill
