Batchworth lake island, Rickmansworth. There are four main lakes, Batchworth, Bury, Stockers and Springwell, these are all old gravel workings. Stockers nature reserve is the largest with lots of islands and water fowl.

I spent most of my working life with an aggregates company who dug places like this and then restored them back to nature, they do make for very good photos under the right conditions.
John Prior: And these have had plenty of time to mature as I can remember fishing in them as a kid and I think were abandoned in the 1920s. One of the ad accounts I worked on was for Steetley.
