Longstone lighthouse

Built in 1826, now automated and unmanned since 1996. It was here on the 17th September 1838 that lighthouse keeper's daughter Grace Darling spotted the sinking 'Forfarshire' during a terrible storm. She became a Victorian heroine helping her father rescue survivors. She died of tuberculosis just four years later.

I remember learning about her as a child John, nice to see her colourful abode
I remember taking the kids to the museum about Grace Darling. Hers is a great Victorian story
Red is not a colour we use on lighthouses here. It matches the soil. (grin) I think it looks stunning in the landscape.
Quite a story, and quite a picture...
gotta love the candy stripped lighthouses
