Magic Mushroom

The Fly Agaric, Amanita muscaria. The fly agaric is poisonous. It is known to cause hallucinations, violent stomach upsets, uncontrollable muscle spasms and could be fatal. It has been used as a fly killer - hence the name. Small pieces of the fungi were added to a saucer of milk. Flies came to feed from the saucer and were killed. Did you know? The name 'Toadstool' might make you think that toadstools got their name from being a piece of amphibian furniture, but in fact 'toad-stuhl' is a German name, which means seat of death!

A wonderful picture John. It was interesting reading about the Toadstool.
These seem so fairytalish to me. We don't have them here in the desert. Love the colors.
Poisonous - thus the red color - it's a wonderful looking thing!

A fine shot but I don't think I'll be trying any for breakfast John!
John Prior: Thanks Chris, not a psychedelic start to the day then smile
I was listening to radio programme about fungi, just yesterday, and apparently there are only about five species that will definitely kill you. Apparently 'Fly Agaric' isn't one of them but it will certainly pursuade you to skive off work for a few days.
John Prior: Thanks Richard, never tried it, but I've know those who have smile
I haven't seen one yet this year. I love to photograph mushrooms and this is a favorite.
