Maratea I

Basilicata’s short but beautiful 30 kilometre Tyrrhenian coastline, some 200 kilometres south from Naples. Dominating the skyline of Maratea is the 22-metre-high statue of the Redeemer, which was erected in 1965 at the top of the mountain. This series continues over the weekend.

That is a very fine statue John.....and the person at the base gives it the scale.....great composition with the beautiful sky behind it....petersmile
John Prior: Thanks Peter
That statue is a bit scary!! I think I prefer the angel of the north!
John Prior: Hi Bill, I think the angel of the north is great also, I really like Gormley's work. This was a present to the town from an expat who had lived in South America, so there is an obvious influence connection to the statue at Rio de Janeiro.
good POV for this photo
John Prior: Thanks a lot
Seeminglyatue sprout out of the hill, the stone looks the stone looks exactly the same. Fine picture!!

Actually I like this statue: it certainly has an aura of redemption about it
John Prior: Thanks Chris,
The fact that the people are included to give it scale makes it for me. It is quite like the redeemer overlooking Rio.
John Prior: Thank you Mary.
I really like the statue, whatever it is made from, it blends really well with its surroundings, even being so tall smile
John Prior: Thank you Linda
Good photography, good tones. Regards.
John Prior: Thank you Pedro
