2011 launch pad?

Disused and abandoned at Almuñécar, Spain. Some illegal African immigrants were living behind this structure.

I thought it looked a bit untidy on the under side. Those mountains in the distance look beautiful and the greyscale is terrific for all the details.
John Prior: Thanks Sherri
Launch pad to a better life in Europe?

Looks like the top of a ski jumping tower seen from behind to me - although the country may be wrong. Never heard of spanish ski jumpers. smile

A great shot. Happy New Year to you John!
John Prior: Thanks Pekka, perhaps but not a very welcome one I'm afraid.

Good grief: it's like something out of science fiction!
John Prior: Thanks Chris, that's what I thought.
It looks like a disused aquapark, a water fun park with tunnels down into a defunct swimming pool.
Well captured John.
John Prior: Yes Shelia, I was surprised by the number of illegal concrete buildings that had reached an advanced size and height before being halted, sometimes ruining the views of established homes, I understand that it take years of legal wrangling to get them demolished.
I like the stark feel to this image John with your processing. No doubt this has been the centre of lots of fun in years gone by.
John Prior: Yes indeed Brian, I like abandoned structures as the are full of echoes of former times.
So it's a slog up to the top to slide down to the bottom again...sounds like the year in prospect grin
John Prior: Thanks Bill, I saw the metaphorical aspect also smile
Impressive structure!!! Very nice BW!
Have a nice day an d happy new year.
John Prior: Thanks Dom
It certainly does not lookl inviting John.
John Prior: Thanks Chad, no, but structure like this are always interesting smile
It looks totally weird, I'm guessing it was part of a water park of some sort that's fallen out of use.

Happy New Year to you and yours.
John Prior: Thanks Ellie, yes indeed, happy new year to you and yours.
