Come on in

Smithfield Market. I used to work at an agency near here, a place of great character, pubs like the 'Hope' are open at 6am in the morning under special licence for market traders. A full English breakfast with Guiness and champagne to celebate an account win on a few occasions.

Aha - memories of when the consumption of alcohol during daytime was considered the road to perdition, which all of us of a certain age remember. Love the gates here, presumably they have a preservation order on them?
John Prior: In July the communities secretary, Eric Pickles, has sided with campaigners battling to save large parts of London's Smithfield market from demolition, rejecting a £160m proposal for a new complex of offices, shops and restaurants as "wholly unacceptable".
Unusual colours but I like them a lot.
John Prior: They were painted about 15 years ago, before that just brown.
What beautiful gates and so colourful.
John Prior: Yes they are rather splendid, they were painted about 15 years ago, before that just brown.
Looks like a great place...
John Prior: It remains largely unchanged, development plans got thrown out in July

John Prior: Indeed
